In connection with Bloomberg LP’s annual Data for Good Exchange conference, Bloomberg LP and NYC Media Lab launched an awards program for faculty from New York City and beyond to apply for impact grants to advance their research focusing on data for social good.
NYC Media Lab collaborated with Viacom’s New Experience Team (NEXT) for the Viacom Virtual Reality Fellowship that took place in summer 2016. Viacom NEXT, led by Chaki Ng, with Rob Ruffler and David Liu, is focusing intensely on VR. The Fellowship was a way to foster a sharing of techniques with young talent from local NYC universities where there is tremendous interest and enthusiasm for rapid prototyping in VR.
In 2015-2016, Verizon awarded $250,000 to NYC university teams for research and prototyping projects focusing on connected devices and hardware, journalism, and virtual reality. Fourteen projects from faculty, researchers and students from Columbia University, Cornell Tech, The New School, New York University and Pratt Institute were selected to participate in the program.
