NYC Media Lab’s prototyping program connects companies to the cutting-edge research taking place across the City’s universities. Members work directly with talented faculty and students to structure innovative applied R&D and rapid prototyping programs, fellowships, hackathons, and more, each focused on your company’s exploratory questions and experimental goals.



Build startup partnerships through NYC Media Lab’s Combine program and gain access to new ventures, events, and feedback sessions. Leveraging our network of innovators, we offer intrapreneurship programs for companies that are looking towards fresh startup concepts to discover new value propositions and customer segments with emerging technology.

APPLY FOR prototyping & research projects

The prototyping project program matches university faculty, students and researchers to curiosities and challenges from NYC Media Lab's corporate members. These projects can take the form of working groups, fellowships, business research, hackathons, or bootcamps. Outcomes of prototyping projects range from demonstration-ready prototypes to white papers. NYC Media Lab programs have lead to hiring and internship opportunities for its university community.

For entrepreneurial faculty, students and researchers, NYC Media Lab Combine is set up to match new technologies emerging in university labs, studios, classrooms and dorms with a program and resources to commercialize them. Teams particite in a lean curriculum to learn market validation and customer discovery, with the goal of starting a new venture. NYC Media Lab member executives and investors participate in the program as cohort mentors. Several alumni have gone on to gain market traction and raise continued funds.
